Honduras wants to move its international airport to Palma Roola
Honduras has requested the US base in its Palma Roola region be demilitarized and turned into an commercial airport for international flights. Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has formally requested a change in US policies in the region. The Palma Roola US military base was installed in 1983 in order to counter communism in El Salvador. It is now the main US base in Central America.
Taiwan to donate funds for water supply projects
The Republic of China government has donated more than US$370,000 to Honduras to help fund water supply projects in the rural areas. Honduran International Cooperation Minster Karen Zelaya who received the donation also appealed to aid organizations worldwide to sponsor projects promoting health and wellbeing for the Honduran people. The fund is to be used for improving water supplies and sanitation systems in the most poor provinces and of the country.
