Import belastingen

Guatemala applies the common external tariff schedule of the Central American Common Market (CACM), which ranges from zero to 15 percent for most agricultural and industrial goods, though there are exceptions of up to 40 percent for alcoholic beverages and up to 20 percent for white corn, beans, sugar, cigarettes with tobacco content, various types of vehicles, and firearms.

Except for items covered by special incentives or purchased directly by governmental agencies, imports from outside the Central American region are subject to a tariff ranging between 5 and 20 percent ad valorem on CIF value. The Value Added Tax (IVA) is also paid on imports, unless the import falls under special exonerations. The only standard tariff for Value Added Tax is 12 percent over the CIF value.

De vereiste importdocumentatie

The Government of Guatemala, through the Ministry of Agriculture (for unprocessed food products) and the Ministry of Health (for processed food products), issues an import permit for all imported foods of animal or vegetable origin. To obtain this permit the shipment must comply with the following requirements: phytosanitary and/or sanitary certificate, certificate of origin, commercial invoice, free sale certificate, bill of lading, and a microbiological certificate for products of animal origin.

Some medical devices require an inscription (registration) at the registration office of the Ministry of Health. These inscriptions need to be renewed every five years.
